In this video we enter phase 2 of our cleanse where I suddenly get a serious fever and the reason why might surprise you! (It did me!)
This part of the cleanse is all about removing toxins and you’ll want to watch the video to learn about the process that’s taken to remove those toxins.
Remember, Panchakarma aims to bring you back into your natural state and the way that’s done is through the use of herbs to first pull toxins and in this phase to accumulate those pulled toxins and remove them from the body. It’s not the most fun part but boy is it effective.
Here’s a list of treatments we did:
Shirodhara – This one is a favorite of ours because it throws you into a blissful state where it’s a real challenge to stay awake. Shirodhara is a continuous pouring of warm oil in a slow steady stream on the forehead that helps to pacify the subtle aspects of the doshas: it amazingly nourishes and relaxes the nervous system, promotes a peaceful state of relaxation, and improves mental function. It should be done in a series to help with various neurological and mental imbalances. Its benefits are greatly enhanced if they follow a therapeutic massage or Abhyanga, when the body is already relaxed and in a very receptive state.
Abhyanga massage – One of the world’s oldest massage therapy techniques, warm oil is rhythmically massaged into your body, loosening toxins, relaxing the nervous system, and providing profound rest, nourishment, and rejuvenation. It restores the balance of the doshas and enhances well-being and longevity. Regular Abyanga is especially grounding and relaxing for Vata dosha imbalances, but everyone can benefit from this practice.
Swedana – This is a herbal steam bath that induces sweating for the release of toxins. Your head is kept cool during this process by having your body inside the steam area. In Ayurveda, swedana is used to relieve excess doshas from the body, establishing a state of balance which promotes good health.
Pizhichil – During this indulgent treatment 20 liters of medicated and warmed Ayurvedic oil is continuously poured over the body while two practitioners rub and stimulate the skin using hands – it’s as good as it sounds and is incredibly effective in getting the medicated oil deep into your tissues. This is a highly rejuvenating treatment that enhances muscular tone and retunes the entire nervous system.
